Vintage Style Pocket Watches

Every watch in this collection is newly made in a traditional style rather than an old piece resold. That matters in two practical ways. The movement is new and covered by our 12-month warranty instead of being of unknown age and history, and you can wear it to a wedding or hand it over as a gift without wondering how it has been treated for the past century. The design language is borrowed from the classic fob watch era, with Roman numeral dials, patterned case backs, sprung lids and a chain worn across a waistcoat.

Choose the case style first

Three styles cover most of what people are after. Full Hunter Pocket Watches have a hinged metal lid over the dial that springs open when you press the crown, which protects the glass in a pocket and gives you the lid-opening moment people associate with the style. Half Hunter Pocket Watches keep that lid but cut a window into it, so you can check the time without opening anything. Skeleton Pocket Watches cut the dial away instead, leaving the gears and balance wheel visible while the watch runs. Open-face pieces have no lid at all and are the quickest to read.

Then choose the colour

Finishes here are plated and tone finishes rather than precious metal. Silver Pocket Watches and Gold Pocket Watches are the two most asked for at weddings and milestone birthdays, and our single best selling piece is a brushed silver hunter. Brass Pocket Watches have a warmer, aged look that suits steampunk and period costume. Black Pocket Watches read as more modern and sit well against a dark suit.

Winding, chains and delivery

Most of the range is hand-wound mechanical, so there is no battery. Turn the crown clockwise until you feel firm resistance, then stop, and make a habit of doing it at about the same time each day. The Swiss quartz pieces in the Classique line run on a battery and need nothing from you. Chains are not included, though a free matching chain is added to orders over $100 and a bamboo presentation box is free with the code BAMBOOBOX on orders over $80. We dispatch from Brisbane within 1 to 2 business days, with free Express Post on Australian orders over $60, and unworn watches can be returned within 60 days.

Vintage Style Pocket Watches: questions we get asked

Are these original old pocket watches, or newly made ones?

Every watch here is newly made in a vintage style, so nothing in the range is a used or collectable original. That means the movement is new and covered by a 12-month warranty rather than being of unknown age. The styling is traditional and the mechanics are current.

Are these pocket watches for men or for women?

The range is not split by gender, and buyers choose right across it. The polished silver and brass fob watches are popular as ladies fob watches worn on a chain, while the larger full hunter designs are more often bought for men. Choose on case style and finish rather than on who a piece is labelled for.

Do these pocket watches need a battery?

Most do not. The majority of the collection is hand-wound mechanical, so you turn the crown clockwise once a day until it stops firmly and that is all it needs. The exceptions are the Swiss Classique range, which uses Swiss quartz, and a small number of Japanese quartz pieces; those do run on a battery.

Does a chain come with the watch?

A chain is not included with the watch itself, but there is a matching chain available for every piece in the range. We add a free matching chain to orders over $100. If you would rather choose your own, the chains are listed under Pocket Watch Chains.

Can I have a pocket watch engraved?

Engraving is offered only on our Engravable Pocket Watches range, not across the wider collection. It is done on the case back, up to 30 characters, and is added on the product page for a small fee. Allow an extra 2 to 4 business days, and note that engraved watches are not eligible for a change-of-mind return.
