Guides from FOB & Co on pocket watches, fob watches, chains and gifting: how to choose, wear, wind and care for them, plus gift ideas for the men in your life.
TL;DR: Christmas gifts for men in Australia work best when they last past the new year. A pocket watch does that: it is a keepsake he can carry, display or pass on, and selected styles can carry an engraved message. FOB & Co has gold, silver, black and brass styles, from half hunters to a…
TL;DR: Cufflinks come in a handful of core styles, whale-back, chain-link, ball-return, fixed-backing and novelty, and the fastening you pick matters as much as the design. Match the style to the cuff (French or barrel), the occasion (black tie, business, groomsmen duty), and don’t be afraid to pair a good set with a pocket watch…
TL;DR: A pocket watch works with a suit or waistcoat when the chain length, pocket placement and dial style match the occasion, from a single Albert chain tucked into a waistcoat pocket for weddings to a chunkier double Albert for everyday wear with a jacket. Get the chain long enough to sit with a gentle…
Range update: FOB & Co no longer sells nurses fob watches. This article is an informational guide. Our current pocket watches are gifts and personal accessories, not a replacement for a workplace-approved clinical watch. Check your employer’s requirements and the watch manufacturer’s care instructions before choosing a watch for work. TL;DR: A nurses fob watch…

TL;DR: Yes, a pocket watch makes a genuinely good 21st birthday gift for men, it’s got weight (literally and sentimentally), it can be engraved, and it doesn’t look like something bought in a rush at a shopping centre. The trick is matching the case metal and style to the bloke’s actual taste rather than grabbing…
TL;DR: Pocket watch chains come in three main flavours: the single Albert (one chain, one T-bar, one clasp), the Double Albert (two chains off a central T-bar, for a bit more drama), and the plain fob chain (short, simple, worn with a medallion or strap loop). Which one suits you comes down to how you’re…
TL;DR: Engraved pocket watch gifts work best with a short, specific message: a name, a date or a line the person will recognise. At FOB & Co, the engraving box on engravable watches takes up to 30 characters and costs $29, so the wording needs choosing with care before you add the watch to your…
TL;DR: To set and wind a mechanical pocket watch, pull the crown out one click, turn it to move the hands, then push it back in. To wind, turn the crown clockwise in short, steady turns until you feel firm resistance, and stop there. Wind it at about the same time each day and never…
TL;DR: Mechanical pocket watches feel more traditional, tactile, and collectible, while quartz pocket watches are usually more accurate and lower-maintenance. The best choice depends on whether you value heritage and movement, or convenience and reliability. In This Article: What the two types are Mechanical pocket watches Quartz pocket watches How to choose the right one…
